What’s New in Membership
Recruiting new members is part of the responsibility of the Membership Committee, and this year,
in preparation to host the 2006 St. Louis MCMLA Conference, it will be an especially important task.
We need our organization to be working at its maximum strength.
Last year, the Membership Committee
conducted a membership drive aimed at potential members outside of the traditional Medical Library Setting.
This year, we will be focussing on institutions that already have active members.
Current members that work with people who are not members are encouraged to promote
SLML.
They should let the others know about our classes, social events, lectures, listserv and the many opportunities
to get involved with the MCMLA Conference. If members do not want to approach people themselves,
they are welcome to forward names to the Membership Committee (membership@slml.org), and we will contact
them directly. Right now, we have 83 members, but hope to get over 100 by the end of the year.
So, spread the word, let people know all that SLML has to offer and encourage others to discover, or
*re-Discover the St. Louis Medical Librarians!
*The 2006 MCMLA Conference will be called Gateway to re-Discovery.

Awards and Recognition
The SLML Recognition and Awards Committee will continue to be chaired by Christina Sullivan during the upcoming year. Committee members Barb Mathieu and Clara McLeod will continue to serve in their capacity as well. In addition to the Organization’s standard awards and certificates, the SLML Board members for FY 2003-04 will receive formal certificates of appreciation for their efforts during the year. Also, we are considering reintroducing a variation of the SLML financial award to cover registration for the 2005 MCMLA annual meeting.

Communications Committee
The Communications Committee expects a busy year. Liz Delfert, Ruth Lewis, and Pat Leembruggen join me on the committee this year. The discussion list is working fine. It is still a low volume list, which we all appreciate.
The web site is now the main repository of organizational information. Last year we instituted the first online votes for the By-Laws Revision and the Election of Officers. Everything went smoothly with that process.
If you have any problems with the discussion list or the web site, please send an email to communication@slml.org. All of the committee members will receive the message and one of us will respond to you as soon as we can.
