SLML Now Accepts Credit Cards For Fees and Event Charges

The SLML, in partnership with its web hosting company GoDaddy, has begun accepting credit cards for the payment of fees. Currently the only fee for which we are collecting is the Membership fee. In the future, we will be using this feature to collect payment for any event that requires a fee. The main reason that we started using this feature at this time is to work the bugs out so that we could collect registration fees for the upcoming MCMLA 2006 meeting that we will be hosting in October 2006.

How the Membership Renewal Works

Starting this September, you can now update the Membership database yourself. Just go http://www.mcmla.org/member/signup.htm to access your membership record. First, you select how you will pay for your membership. Both renewing members and new members can choose to pay for their membership by Credit Card or Any Other Means. Any Other Means usually means either a personal check or an institutional check sent to our Treasurer. To access your membership record, click on the appropriate link and type in your e-mail address in the form. (Please be sure you use the correct e-mail address that you have entered in your membership record.)

The information in your membership record will be filled in when the next form loads up. Here, is where you review your membership information. You can edit your personal information to update your record. If you have changed institutions, you must send that information to the Membership Chairperson. In order for you to renew your membership, you must click on the Submit button. If you have chosen to pay by personal or institutional check, please print the form before clicking the Submit button. Then mail both the check and the form to Ellen Dickman, our Treasurer. If you have chosen to pay by credit card, just click on the Submit button, and you will be forwarded to our shopping card application in order to charge your renewal fee.

How the Shopping Cart Application Works

Using your credit card on our site requires you to register at our shopping cart application. Our shopping cart application is operated by Innovative Gateway Solutions, our Merchant Account provider. Once registered and logged in, you will see a list of products available through the SLML. Again, currently the only product available is the SLML Membership. You select the product and proceed to check out, where you provide your credit card information. Once you have checked out, log off of the site.

Keeping Things Secure

The organization has purchased an SSL certificate to ensure that all transactions on the shopping cart site are encrypted and secure. SSL is the Web-standard for encryption and security and is used by the majority of E-commerce web sites on the Internet. With this certificate, you can be assured that the information you provide to the shopping cart application is secure and safe.
