I would like to personally welcome you to SLML and to thank you for participating in our organization! SLML membership is a wonderful way to interact with colleagues locally and it offers numerous continuing education opportunities at little or no cost to members.

As a new member, I was invited to serve on one of the SLML Ad Hoc Committees. This experience was tremendously rewarding both personally and professionally. I not only learned more about the organization, but also discovered a wealth of useful information about other members' libraries and services that I could share with co-workers at my own institution. The committee chairs all recognize the fact that library professionals are busy (!) and the time commitment required for committee membership is very reasonable. So, please consider joining one of the SLML standing committees-Archives, Continuing Education & Programs, Governance, Membership, Nominating, or Recognition & Awards. Or better yet, volunteer to chair a committee or to serve as an officer on the SLML Board of Directors!

The Medical Library Association's educational policy statement Platform for Change states that "…the ultimate responsibility for lifelong learning and professional development rests with the individual." Membership and service in SLML provide excellent opportunities for continuous learning and development of your leadership abilities!
