| When I emailed Karen Wawrzyniak and asked her if she would be the
SLML member profile for the August 2003 issue, I received an email
back saying, “I am not a librarian.” I emailed Karen
back and said I hope she would do the interview because the organization
is composed of people who have an interest in medical librarianship.
Karen agreed and here is what she had to say.
Karen Wawrzyniak is the Senior Secretary at the Missouri Institute
of Mental Health Library. She has worked there since 1995. As senior
secretary, Karen assists library patrons with their research needs
by helping them locate books and journals on their topics and providing
computer assistance when they need information on a particular
subject. She is responsible for the library’s budget and
makes all book, journal, and office supply purchases. She also
processes the paperwork for all of the library’s invoices.
Karen assists the librarian, Mary Johnson, and provides backup
support to the library assistant and interlibrary loan person.
She has been a member of SLML since 1995.
Karen was born in St. Louis and graduated from the University
of Missouri-Columbia in 1988 with a B.A. in English. She is married
and has a pet rabbit named Sasha. Karen and her husband enjoy boating,
vacationing in Florida, and are active members of the Missouri
House Rabbit Society. |
