St. Louis Medical Librarians

Business Meeting Minutes

December 8, 2000
2:10 P.M.

The SLML meeting took place at St. John's Mercy Health Center, before a
presentation given by E. Diane Johnson. There were about 30 attendees, but
some of those attending were SLA members, not SLML members.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer:
Monica distributed the Sept. and Dec. Reports, and explained the contents.

Union List:
The union list forms have been sent out via email and Philnet.

Program:
Ed Walter stated that he and Jennifer are working on future programs, and
That they will announce them in the near future.

Communication:
Sue requested that any news items be sent to her for distribution on the
SLML listserv and the SLML Web page. Members were also encouraged to submit
questions, comments, and general discussion on their own on the listserv.

Old Business:
Sylvia explained that the Board had discussed the SLML Newsletter, and had decided to try distributing news via the listserv and Web rather than putting out a formal quarterly newsletter. The disadvantages of the formal newsletter (labor intensive, lack of timeliness) and the listserv/Web method (lack of definitive archiving product) were discussed. Members stated that the timely announcements on the listserv were welcome. It was voted to continue the listserv/Web method and to discontinue the formal newsletter format.

Fund-raising activities:
Sylvia explained the Board's discussion of a dinner party with a silent auction, with items to be donated from local companies. There was some doubt raised about the membership being large enough to guarantee attendance and bidding at such an event. An E-Bay type auction on the SLML site was discussed. It was decided to discuss the auction fundraiser at a future time.
Members were encouraged to do all their Amazon.com buying through the SLML Web page in order to add 5-15% of total sales to SLML.

New Business:
No new business.

The meeting was adjourned around 2:30 P.M.
