A business meeting was conducted at the Southwestern Bell TeleCommunity Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.
President Locke called the members to order.
An announcement was made that a Continuing Education course on conducting surveys will be held on March 19. President Locke encouraged all present to take advantage of the offering.
Membership committee chairperson Cindy Fedders informed the group that SLML has 99 members for 1999-2000. New member Jane Sulze from Missouri College was introduced.
Union List chairperson Kathy Ray reported 34 participants in the Union List for the year. She said the Web version of the list if accessible and complete on the SLML webpage.
Member Beth Carlin was introduced and described a grant project she has initiated, "Coalition for Health Information Dissemination". The grant is from the NLM. She described the project as spearheading a community effort to provide health information to consumers. It would be conducted by medical librarians. She asked that any members who are interested in serving on a planning committee contact her. Her e-mail address is CarlinB@health.missouri.edu .
Member Mary Johnson from Missouri Institute of Mental Health introduced herself as editor of "Behavioral and Social Sciences Librarians" She invited SLML members who might have pertinent studies or other work to submit articles for the journal.
The business meeting concluded and program commenced with the introduction of Teri Hartmann. Ms. Hartmann is from the Rural Telemedicine Evaluation Project. She shared her experiences with telemedicine and getting a rural health information network established in central Missouri.
