Minutes

President Monika called the members to order following the luncheon.
The meeting began with a discussion of sessions at the Medical Librarians Association Annual Meeting. Items of interest that were reported back to the group included: a scanner for $15,000 that can handle two pages at the same time, Adigital estate@ discussion by the editor of Wired magazine, the state of Russian public health, managed care's effect on academic medicine, and minority health resources (Kathy Mullen has information available on minority resources).
BUSINESS MEETING
Financial reports were given out to the membership on the state of SLML and the final status of MCMLA 97.
It was announced that the Strategic Plan for the upcoming term of office is available on the SLML Webpage.
President Monika reported to those in attendance that the organization is in good shape. There are currently around 100 members, and there is money in the bank. SLML offers good programs and good Continuing Education opportunities for the membership. Russ, through the recently formed Communications Committee, is leading the way in providing information in a timely fashion to members via the SLML listserv and Webpage. Approximately 90% of the members have access to e-mail.
The MCMLA 97 meeting hosted by SLML was a great success. President Monika gave a thank you to all who helped to plan the meeting, those who worked during the events, and all who attended.
He reported that the are problems in getting members involved in activities and service to the organization. This will be looked into in the coming months. Any suggestions for getting non-attending members involved once again are welcome. Also ideas for developing new members' activities.
A thank you was made to all officers and committee chairs, especially to the Program and Continuing Education Committees. Kathy Mullen and Ashley White, who were in attendance representing the latter two committees, were presented with flowers in appreciation for their efforts.
Linda Hulbert, chair of the Nominating Committee, then presented the slate of officers for the 1997-98 term. They are: President, Donna Locke; Immediate Past President, Russ Monika; President-Elect, Suzanne Dunmire; Barbara Holbrook, Treasurer; Maria Minowitz, Secretary; and Members-At-Large, Sue Schoening and Jill Schneider.
Phil Tilghman, Chair of the Recognition and Awards Committee, then presented certificates of recognition and service to the St. Louis Medical Librarians officers.
