The meeting was called to order by President Monika.
The following documents were distributed to the membership: The meeting agenda and 1997-98 Strategic Plan.
President Monika introduced himself as the current SLML President, and he welcomed the members in attendance. He told the membership that the current revision of the SLML By-laws are available on the groups Website, in addition to the Procedure Manual and other documents. It was announced that Cheryle Cann will send paper copies for those members who need this format.
Donna Locke reported to the membership about Team MCMLA. She thanked the volunteers who helped during the conference. There were 125 in attendance and there have been glowing reviews about the meeting.
Mary Margaret Sicking bid the group a fond adieu as she announced her upcoming retirement from Central Institute for the Deaf. She has been the librarian at CID for 27 years.
President Monika announced to the membership that a new Communications Committee had been formed by the board. He questioned those present about the format for the groups newsletter, and questioned if one is still necessary. He asked about electronic delivery of news to the membership via the groups list-serv.
A point was raised from the floor that there should be regular delivery of events and information to encourage communications. A tentative schedule of three times for the remaining year, in January, March and June, was set. It is hoped that there will be a schedule of four times for next year.
President Monika pointed out that he is currently wearing many hats on the Communications Committee and solicited help from the membership to serve.
A panel discussion on consumer health information services concluded the luncheon program. Those on the panel included Mike Campese, St. Elizabeths Hospital in Belleville, IL; Sue Schoening and Suzanne Dunmire, Nancy Sue Claypool Health Information Center, St. Marys Health Center, St. Louis; and Janet Hale, University Hospital Health Information Center, Columbia, MO. Ashley Ray, Program Committee chairperson, served as moderator.
